The Ali Forney Center (AFC) is hiring on-call, part-time and full-time youth counselors for our Housing Programs. AFC provides residential services to homeless/unstably-housed LGBT young people ages 16-24, in supportive, LGBT-affirming environments.
Primary responsibilities include: maintaining a safe space, providing crisis counseling and mediation/conflict resolution as needed, facilitating groups and recreational activities, and documentation of services.
Must be highly organized and able to work independently. Experience working with adolescent/young adult population required. Knowledge of psychosocial needs of LGBTQ/homeless population is helpful. Experience in individual and group behavioral counseling.
Please note: Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including overnight hours, weekends and holidays required. The overnight position is an awake position - sleeping is not permitted during the shift.
Shifts are generally 12 hours in length. Sites are in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. Pay is $17/hr.
Experience and understanding of LGBTQ youth culture and issues facing unstably housed young people required. Experience in a residential setting preferred. Fire Guard Certification a plus.
